According to § 3 MarkenG, the following in particular can be protected as a trademark in Germany:
- words including personal names,
- images,
- letters (= alphabetic characters),
- numbers,
- sound trademarks,
- three-dimensional designs, including the shape of a product or its packaging, and
- other presentations including colors and color combinations.
Since the list in § 3 MarkenG is not exhaustive, other types may also be considered, including in particular
- olfactory marks,
- taste marks,
- haptic marks (tactile marks),
